Aeson Power has made its brand debut in Malaysia with the launch of its sodium-ion automotive battery series, NaPulse Starting, NaPulse Start-Stop and NaForce Start-Stop. These batteries promise to be a safer and more efficient alternative to traditional lead-acid batteries that are used in most cars today.

Automotive starter batteries are often subject to heat radiating from the engine, other components, and in hot countries like Malaysia, the weather. As temperatures reach above 60 degrees Celsius, conventional lead-acid batteries can face diminishing power, sudden discharge, and swelling.

Sodium-ion batteries, however, can effectively address these issues by offering better performance and a lower risk of fire or explosion. According to Aeson Power, their sodium-ion batteries are engineered to perform reliably even under high temperatures.

The batteries are reportedly capable of continuous operation at temperatures of up to 80 degrees Celsius, and can also endure long-term storage. Aeson adds that the batteries retain over 85% of their capacity even after a month of storage at 60 degrees Celsius.

Inside these new batteries is the company’s polyanion cathode material technology. This allows for several advantages, including a lightweight construction, ultra-fast charging (as fast as 0% to 100% in 40 minutes), high-rate discharge for powerful starts, extended cycle life, a wide operating temperature range, ultra-low self-discharge, and strong vibration resistance.

For comparison, conventional lead-acid batteries have a recommended charge rate of 0.2 C (“C” referring to how many times the battery’s capacity can be charged in an hour). In contrast, Aeson Power’s sodium-ion batteries support up to a 1.0 C charge rate, and are also highly resilient to over-discharge, capable of recovering even after being fully drained to zero volts.

Aeson Power’s sodium-ion automotive batteries also offer up to three times the cycle life of traditional lead-acid batteries (3,000 cycles at 50% depth of discharge [DoD], vs. 500-1200 cycles at 50% DoD).

The batteries also boast an ultra-low internal resistance, enabling strong bursts of energy, with starting performance far exceeding lead-acid alternatives. Their wide operating voltage range (6–14 volts) provides better durability and adaptability, allowing vehicles to start even at 10.5V, whereas lead-acid batteries typically fail below 12V.

Aeson Power sodium-ion batteries are now available for purchase, starting from RM369 to RM629 for the NaPulse Black series, a series of batteries for cars without start-stop functions. Those who need batteries for cars with start-stop functions, the NaPulse Start-Stop (SS) series batteries are available from RM749 to RM1,359

All of Aeson’s batteries come with a standard two-year warranty, which can be optionally extended to three years for an additional fee of up to RM70, depending on the model.

Aeson Power is an energy solutions provider headquartered in Australia and is backed by Xupai, a well-established battery supplier in China, supplying power solutions to brands such as Wuling, SAIC, and many more. Aeson Power specialises in sodium-ion batteries, aiming to provide energy solutions for vehicles that are safer, more sustainable, and of higher quality.

Aeson Power, Managing Director, Jin Chan, said, “Today’s launch represents a big milestone for Aeson Power as we introduce our NaPulse Starting, NaPulse Start-Stop and NaForce Start-Stop Sodium-ion automotive batteries to the diverse Malaysian market. This product is a testament to our commitment to providing cutting-edge solutions that not only elevate automotive performance but also contribute to a more sustainable future.”

“We’re thrilled to bring this innovation to Malaysia and look forward to seeing how it will reshape the way drivers experience energy storage in their vehicles,” he added.
